St Peter’s Hillfields is at its heart a place of warm welcome and belonging for all. Although our heart and passion is for our local area of Hillfields, our church family is made up of many nations and all walks of life!
Although we now have a modern, purpose-built building, moving out of the old Victorian church building in 2001, St Peter’s has stood at the heart of the community of Hillfields since 1841. Throughout those many years, the church has had an amazing legacy of welcoming all, particularly newcomers and those in need.
We are not just a Sunday church and are busy with all sorts of activities throughout the week, seeking to connect with and serve our neighbours and introduce them to the transforming love of Jesus.
In 2021, St Peter’s was blessed with significant investment of both people and financial resources, as the church renewed its commitment to care for the needs of those living in and around Hillfields to revitalise and re-energise the missional heart of St Peter’s. This renewed focus on outreach and community engagement has also been supported nationally by a Strategic Development Fund (SDF) grant, approved by the Strategic Investment Board, on behalf of the Archbishops’ Council.
Showing Radical Love and Hospitality
We believe that God has called us to love both our church community and the wider community of Hillfields as well. Why? Because God loves our community and wants people to know his love, and this is best done through his people.
Developing a Passion for God’s Presence
We believe that church should be a place where people from many different worshipping traditions can come together to express their passion for God and encounter God’s presence. St Peter’s is a church where people are encouraged to connect with the love of God, demonstrated in the life and work of Jesus Christ, through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Working for Freedom and Justice
We believe that the injustice we see around us each day breaks God’s heart. Therefore, St Peter’s seeks to bring more of God’s justice into the lives of people who are currently experiencing individual and/or societal injustice. When people come to us in need of help, we always do our best to journey with them through their time of need.
Sharing the Good News of Jesus
We believe that the Good News of Jesus Christ transforms people’s lives and situations, and that being part of the family of God brings healing and wholeness. St Peter’s seeks to be a church where we both speak out and live out this Good News so that others might receive it for themselves.
We are incredibly blessed to have the most amazing partnerships with local and national services, charities, churches and businesses who support and believe in the work we do here. St Peter’s could not do all the things we do without this help and cannot express how grateful to we are to our fabulous partners who do so much for and with us.
A big ThANK YOU to:
